PASS ID Legislation, September 9, 2009
SIA, in conjunction with the Document Security Alliance, has scheduled a webinar on proposed revisions to the REAL ID Act of 2005 for Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. EST.
REAL ID imposed security requirements for driver's licenses and identification cards that no states have met. Sen. Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii, has proposed the "PASS ID Act" (S. 1261) to replace REAL ID's mandates with requirements that are less stringent and less costly. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano has endorsed the bill. The event will include presentations by Kathleen Kraninger, DHS's deputy assistant secretary for policy, screening coordination, and Molly Ramsdell, the National Conference of State Legislatures' senior policy director for state-federal relations.
