Central Station Operator/Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program (Monitoring/Dispatching)
The Central Station Operator/Instructor Train-the-Trainer Program was developed so that a monitoring business could send one of its supervisors to this train-the-trainer program, whereby this person is taught to become a SIA certified trainer. Upon returning to his/her central stations, and using SIA's educational material, may with SIA's authority, train and certify other operators in his/her central station.
This cost effective program begins with a 40-hour classroom course, which covers the entire process of training a central station operator from the initial hiring to successfully working independently. It is a full week of training, taught by experienced national classroom trainers from SIA and the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO) Institute. The course identifies the necessary elements of an in-house training program and how to set-up these learning opportunities. It also provides an overview of the adult learning process and techniques that are especially applicable to adult learners.
The Instructor course includes a full walk-through of the central station operator course, with tips on covering the material back at the central station. It includes techniques and tools for evaluating student progress and for working with trainees to correct or improve their learning. Student Instructors will be shown how to create supplemental training materials such as written references and job aides for the operator in training. Once completed, the graduate becomes both a SIA Certified Operator and a SIA Certified Instructor who is authorized to be SIA's agent to certify his/her own operators.
