Re-Certification

About the CSPM Re-Certification Process

All Certified Security Project Managers are required to complete the re-certification process within three years of their initial certification date and every three years thereafter. To qualify for re-certification, a CSPM must complete at least 30 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within that time frame and provide documentation to SIA.

CSPMs can earn units in four categories: Membership and Volunteerism; Educational Programs and Courses; Instruction, Speeches and Publications; and Practical Experience and Management. While units can be earned in any category and combined to total the 30 required for re-certification, CSPMs do not need to earn units from every category. Special Note to CSPMs Certified Prior to 2006:

CSPMs certified in 2004 or 2005 may be eligible for an extension to complete the re-certification requirements. CSPMs certified in 2004 have been granted an automatic extension to December 31, 2007. CSPMs desiring an extension should contact the SIA Education Department for more information. Extensions will be considered on an individual basis. You must contact SIA if you would like to request an extension; with the exception of those CSPMs certified in 2004, no extension should be considered automatic.

Examples
If you were certified September 1, 2004, you need to complete and submit your re-certification form no later than December 31, 2007.
If you were certified September 1, 2006, you need to complete and submit your re-certification form no later than September 1, 2009.

CSPMs who do not complete the re-certification process on time, do not file for an extension prior to its expiration date, or are not granted an extension by SIA may have their certification rescinded.

The re-certification cost per CSPM is $100 for SIA members and $150 for non-members.
