How do you use the Curriculum Map?
Step 1: Login
This tool was designed to be an industry-wide resource and, as such, is open to all at no cost. However, establishing a new user account or logging in as a SIA member is required to access this resource.
Step 2: Identify Your Industry Focus and Job Role
Currently, two industry areas - Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and Access Control - are "mapped," which means the critical job roles, competencies and courses available for security professionals in these areas have been defined by industry experts.
With future input from industry experts and education professionals in the field, the Map will continue to evolve to include additional job assessments and course offerings. The next enhancements to the map will be in the areas of Fire and Monitoring.
Step 3: Assess Your Skills and Knowledge
The Map is designed as an outline for the academic journey for ALL industry professionals. It provides individuals and employers alike with a mechanism for evaluating the skills needed to master a particular job. In the self-assessment, users will be prompted to respond to questions about their industry-specific skills and other attributes deemed relevant to their job role and industry area. At the completion of the assessment, users will learn how they compare to top performers in that job role and industry area, and will receive a list of recommended courses to expand their industry knowledge and deepen their particular expertise.
Step 4: Review Course Offerings
Upon completion of the self-assessment, users will receive a list of courses to use as a roadmap, or learning path, to reach the next level of performance. The recommended curriculum will help that individual reach the skill level he/she seeks to be a top performer in his/her job role. The courses will be from training sources, including SIA, found across the industry.
