STATE & LOCAL POLICY WORKING GROUP
Chair, Kathleen Carroll, HID Global

State legislation can directly impact your customer’s spending decisions and their ability to use your products and services. SIA’s State and Local Policy Working Group monitors state government activities affecting the development, use and sale of electronic security solutions. Join this working group and gain insight into the state legislative challenges facing our industry, hear from the decision-makers formulating policies and help shape SIA’s support or opposition to these initiatives. Recently, legislation passed that provides funding for school security in Colorado; and separate bills authorized cooperative purchasing by local governments in New Jersey and Virginia.
Consider these additional examples:

• Biometrics —Pennsylvania is considering legislation that would restrict the use of biometric technologies. SIA is opposed to this bill.

• CCTV — A proposal introduced in Florida would have required certain businesses to purchase video surveillance systems. SIA was opposed to certain portions of the legislation, however the bill died in committee.

• RFID — Legislation nearly passed in California that would have restricted the use of RFID technology. SIA successfully opposed this bill.

If your company manufactures, sells, installs or distributes electronic security products, you need to ensure your interests are protected. Join SIA’s State and Local Policy Working Group today.
