Ohio HB328, "Securing Rail Facilities"
Requires rail facility owners to conduct vulnerability assessments and to ensure employees have appropriate security training. It would also force rail facility owners to identify and provide 24 hour surveillance for critical infrastructure. The legislation is in the process of being assigned to committee.
New York HB4325, the "Local Community Rail Security Act of 2007."
This legislation would require the Department of Transportation and the Agency for Emergency Management to perform a risk assessment of the state’s rail system and rail facilities to determine vulnerabilities in security. It also identifies the need for security training for rail operators.
The legislation was referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions on February 2, 2007 and has yet to be acted on. The bill will roll over to the next legislative session, which will begin in January 2008. The sponsor’s staff offered to send SIA any letters of support or opposition when they receive them.
