Transit & Port Security

California SB45, "Transportation Funds: Transit System Safety"

This legislation establishes an application process through the Office of Homeland Security (OHS) for transit security improvements defined by the "Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, and Port Security Bond Act of 2006."

The "Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, and Port Security Bond Act of 2006," authorized nearly $20 billion in spending, including $1 billion for transit system safety, security and disaster response.

Products eligible for funding include explosive detection devices, response equipment, physical security equipment, barriers, fencing and perimeter security equipment, and other security-related projects approved by the OHS.

The bill passed the Senate and has been referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. According to staff the legislation is expected to pass before the legislature adjourns for the year.
