Wastewater Facilities Security

Alabama HB684, "Waste water Treatment Facility Security"

This legislation would require waste water facilities to assess their vulnerability of terrorist attack and evaluate the use of technology to mitigate risks. The bill also would require facilities to develop a plan for prevention, preparedness and response.

The current legislation is pending action from the Assembly's Public Safety Committee. The legislature reconvenes in February 2008. However, we also are monitoring similar Federal legislation in the Senate, SB1968, the "Water Security Act of 2007."
